Last summer the RSPCA rescued more than 2,800 animals. During the summer months, one pet is abandoned every hour. There are several reasons why more dogs are abandoned during the summer. Some owners seem to have underestimated the various costs associated with owning a dog, like food, vet bills and sitter costs. Other owners seem to have ‘gotten over’ the novelty of having a Christmas puppy.
