Cats Protection is campaigning for compulsory microchipping of pet cats across the UK, as is already the case for dogs.

Fergus the tabby was reported to Cats Protection after being seen in Aberdeen. A volunteer scanned him for a microchip, which revealed just how far he had travelled. Using the phone number connected to the chip, the branch called owner Fiona Mutter with the news that her missing cat Fergus had been found. It remains a mystery as to where Fergus may have been for the past 11 years, but it is likely that at some point he travelled in a vehicle to Aberdeen. [Read More]

Luckily, the mother cat – dubbed Agatha by centre staff – was safely detained 24 hours later and reunited with her brood.

A prison worker had arrived at HMP Parc to find the cat and her six-strong brood nestled in a truck in the yard. A telephone call to CPs Bridgend Adoption Centre saw Kelly Matthews, Deputy Manager, dash to the prison to take charge of the new arrivals. The kittens were taken back to the centre and bottle-fed every two hours while they waited to be reunited with their mother.
